Adopt A Senior Pet Month: Highlighting our Senior Dogs for Adoption.

It’s a sad truth about animal welfare: despite their loyalty and love, senior animals are the hardest to rehome. Every single shelter across the globe has the same experience: cages full of senior dogs, growing older and more tired as time ticks away. For us, the time may feel short, but for them, it could be their lifetime.

Piloto:

Piloto is a new friend of The Frankie Foundation. He has lived an incredibly happy, loved life. Unfortunately, his owner's health has declined, leaving him unable to care for Piloto.

This 12-year-old is seeking a calm, quiet environment to live out the rest of his life. He’s an incredible dog; he walks well on a leash and loves sniffing and watching the world pass by. He’s vaccinated, sterilised and healthy - but needs a caring owner to support him.

Piloto is an extremely loving dog; he enjoys having someone who makes him feel cared for. Piloto doesn’t need much. He doesn’t require long walks or too much excitement, just somewhere safe, soft, and comfortable to call his final home.

Violeta:

Violeta has had a rough life. She was previously confined to a tiny outdoor space. Her previous owner consistently shoved her around with a broom. This has made her quite wary of new people. However, with patience and time, she can become more warm towards you.

She currently allows pets from her favourite canil staff and volunteers.

Violeta is a senior dog who loves the princess treatment. She isn’t a lap dog, but she’ll come up to you on her own terms. She gets along with other dogs, but she likes to make sure they follow her rules. She’s very independent. All she needs is a nice garden space to relax and spend the rest of her life.

Currently, Violeta can bite and become defensive due to her past. If you are interested in meeting Violeta, it will be a slow process, but we are sure that with patience and care, she’ll learn to love whoever can provide her with what she needs.

Winnie:

Winnie is such a strong, loving dog who, unfortunately, needs to urgently be rehomed due to having two types of terminal cancer. Despite being ill, she still enjoys going on walks and exploring the world around her. She’s still energetic and playful and constantly reminds us how amazing dogs can be!

Winnie is a gorgeous 7-year-old who is currently staying at Benafim shelter. Benafim does amazing work and takes care of their shelter dogs, but when it comes to Winnie, we’d love to know she spent her final months somewhere filled with warmth, love, and comfort.

We don’t know how long she has left in her - but we do know she doesn’t deserve to spend it in a shelter. Winnie deserves the comfort of a caring family to spend her last days with.7

The sad truth is, every dog shelter in Portugal is full of Pilotos, Violetas, and Winnies. This Adopt a Senior Pet Month, please consider adopting an older dog. Adopting can make a world of difference in their final years - and they’ll be incredibly thankful for it.

If you are interested in adopting any of the senior dogs discussed in this blog, please send us a message.

Here at The Frankie Foundation, we believe that senior pets deserve a second chance, so this Adopt a Senior Pet Month, we’re highlighting our senior dogs for adoption.
